Baking soda use in teeth

Baking soda is a mildly abrasive alkaline powder that can help remove surface deposits, but it does not replace fluoride toothpaste or dental treatment.

Sodium bicarbonate can loosen some external stains during brushing. It does not rebuild lost enamel, remove calculus, disinfect an abscess, or change the natural color of dentin. Brushing pressure and the condition of the tooth surface affect abrasion.

If using toothpaste containing sodium bicarbonate, brush gently with a soft brush and keep fluoride in the routine. Do not scrub with dry powder, mix it with acidic liquids, or use it to manage pain, a hole, or swelling.

Ask for an examination when discoloration is new, a tooth is sensitive, or there is a rough area, cavity, gum bleeding, or swelling.

Ask whether the mark is surface stain, calculus, enamel loss, or decay, and which toothpaste and brushing technique suit your teeth and gums.
