Gum power toothbrush

Powered brushes use oscillating-rotating or sonic movement to loosen plaque at the tooth surface and gum margin. They do not need force, and pressing hard can irritate gums or wear exposed root surfaces. A timer and pressure sensor can help with consistent technique, but neither replaces cleaning between teeth.

Plaque collects where enamel, cementum, and gingiva meet, especially in the shallow gingival sulcus. The brush head should contact the tooth surface and gum edge without being pushed into the tissue. Bleeding during early cleaning can reflect existing gingival inflammation, while repeated force can contribute to recession or abrasion.

Use a soft head, hold it lightly, and guide it tooth by tooth along the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces. Clean between teeth with floss, interdental brushes, or another method sized to the spaces. Replace a worn or splayed head and follow the device instructions for charging and cleaning; people with braces, implants, or gum disease may need tailored tools.

See a dentist or hygienist for persistent bleeding, recession, loose teeth, sensitivity, or plaque that remains despite careful brushing.
