A Hawley retainer combines an acrylic plate with stainless-steel components, including the labial bow across the labial surfaces of the incisors and canines. Loops and adjustment areas let the orthodontist control contact without the wire replacing the retainer’s overall fit.

Clean the appliance with cool or lukewarm water, a soft brush, and a retainer product suitable for its materials. Store it in its case when removed, and let the orthodontist adjust the bow rather than bending it at home.
